Cellist Jonathan Golove is a dedicated performer of both new and traditional works, as well as of improvised music. A native of Los Angeles, he serves as Associate Professor in the University at Buffalo’s Department of Music. Mr. Golove’s career is marked by its versatility and sense of adventure. He has been featured as cello soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Slee Sinfonietta, and New York Virtuoso Singers; as theremin cello soloist with the Asko/Schoenberg Ensemble, London Sinfonietta, and International Contemporary Ensemble; and, as baroque cellist, with the USC Early Music Ensemble. He is also active as an electric cellist, particularly in the field of creative improvised music. He has performed and recorded with jazz groups including the Michael Vlatkovich Quartet, Ubudis Trio, and Vinny Golia’s Large Ensemble, and made appearances at the Vancouver Jazz Festival, the Eddie Moore Jazz Festival, and the International Meeting of Jazz and New Music (Monterrey, Mexico). He has recorded for the Albany, Centaur, Albuzerque, pfMentum, and Nine Winds labels, and his summer appearances include numerous festivals devoted to new works, including the Holland Festival (Amsterdam), Festival d’Automne (Paris), Lincoln Center Festival, June in Buffalo, and the Festival del Centro Histórico (Mexico City). He was a member of the critically acclaimed Baird Trio, whose debut CD Thoughts and Dreams (Albany Records) includes one of Golove’s original works. Mr. Golove’s compositions have been performed at venues including the Kennedy Center, Venice Biennale, Festival of Aix-en-Provence, Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society II, and the Kitchen, and he has received awards and grants for his work from organizations including ASCAP, the Yvar Mikhashoff Trust for New Music, and Meet the Composer. Multi-wind instrumentalist Steve Baczkowski lives in Buffalo, N.Y. where he works as a conduit for creative music of any & every sort. Baczkowski began playing alto saxophone at age eight, switched to baritone by the time he was twelve, and has since developed a wide array of woodwind styles & formidable breathing techniques. In addition to organizing the Buffalo Improvisers Orchestra, and the Buffalo Suicide Prevention Unit, Baczkowski also performs solo, in duo with Ravi Padmanabha, Bill Sack, Nola Ranallo, Omar Tamez & Bill Nace and in ensembles such as Genkin Philharmonic, 12/8 Path Band, Necrophonia, the William Parker Trance Quartet, and frequent collaborations with like-souled folks from around the world. John Bacon, percussionist and composer, has performed with Lester Bowie, Roswell Rudd, Bobby Previte, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Bobby Militello and as featured soloist with the SUNY Fredonia percussion ensemble. He teaches percussion, and directs a Latin Jazz Ensemble at SUNY Fredonia. He also teaches at UB and Villa Maria College in Buffalo, NY. He holds a PhD. in Music Composition form SUNY at Buffalo and a Masters Degree in Music Performance from SUNY Fredonia. Equally skilled as a percussionist and trap drummer, he has been a member of (hatArt) recording artists The Maelstrom Percussion Ensemble, as well as leading his own ensembles. His music has been performed by a diverse collection of musicians, including The Amherst Saxophone Quartet , Leroy Jenkins, the New Jazz Orchestra of Buffalo, the New York New Music Ensemble, Amanda Deboer and the Colorfield Ensemble and Ensemble Laboratorium. He has toured in England, Italy, Canada, and the US. A 2004 CD release, "Jack Rabbitt", is an organ trio outing on the Cadence Jazz Records label featuring tenor saxophonist Don Menza and organist Bobby Jones. His recording entitled "Boxing Day" was released on Jazz Dimensions Records in May 2007 and features a series of improvisations with pianist Paul Bley.
