Donia Adzima Carey Biography
Donia Carey spent her childhood among corpses and coffins at a funeral home and sang frequently at funerals; her father and uncle were morticians. In high school she was voted Class Poet, but since she was also voted Tallest Girl, though several others topped her by an inch, Donia took the honor with a grain of salt.
In 2006, Donia provided this little bio for our masthead:
Donia Carey, Editor
Donia Carey has always loved listening to stories, telling them, and writing them down. But she has a degree in music and was a professional singer, teacher, music director and organist for most of her life. She also spent five years as editor of a scholarly journal.
Once she sang for e.e. cummings. It was a private command performance of settings of his poems, and Mr. Cummings hummed some snatches of the songs as he left to bail a friend out of jail. That was long ago, and now she's singing less and writing more.
Donia frequently mentioned her meeting with ee cummings.
Writer Marko Fong penned this story in her memory.
